A Year of Transformation: Celebrating One Year at Vermillion Place
In one year, Vermillion Place went from 47% occupancy to a full community with a waitlist. Here's how a resident-first culture, an empowered team, and three generations of family leadership turned it into a place people are proud to call home.
In November 2023, 1019 Senior Living acquired 1019 Vermillion Place, a senior community facing major challenges: low occupancy (47%), a lack of culture, and no operational systems in place. Today, just one year later, 1019 Vermillion Place is at full capacity and thriving, with a waitlist that includes residents from some of the most prestigious communities in town. As we celebrate our wins from this past year, we wanted to share how 1019 Senior Living achieved this impressive turnaround.
A Resident-Centered Culture as our "North Star"
From day one, 1019 Senior Living made residents their "north star," guiding every decision with residents' well-being and engagement in mind. By building a culture where each resident feels valued and connected, 1019 created a place where community, life, and love thrive. This shift in focus turned Vermillion Place into a community where people feel they truly belong.
James Kesler, one of our founders at 1019 Senior Living, put it best: “When we go into buildings, we build those individual relationships with the residents. We focus on making sure the resident has a high-quality, high-engagement lifestyle; everything else will follow.”
1019 Senior Living believes that treating team members with respect and support creates a positive work environment that reflects directly in resident care. By empowering team members to take ownership of their roles and build meaningful relationships with residents, 1019 fostered an atmosphere where both staff and residents feel like family. This approach has led to stronger bonds, higher morale, and a home-like environment that residents appreciate.
A Family Legacy in Senior Living
Vermillion Place’s transformation is deeply rooted in a family tradition of senior care. Heather and her mother Julia Wilson, James, their daughter Zoe, and their son Sam represent three generations working together at Vermillion Place. Sam serves as the Maintenance Director, while Zoe, the newest administrator in the family, recently earned her HFA license, joining her mother and grandmother in carrying on a legacy of compassionate, dedicated service. This multi-generational commitment makes Vermillion Place not just a workplace, but a family endeavor dedicated to serving other families with warmth and care.
Through a resident-centered culture, empowered team members, and a family-led approach, 1019 Senior Living has transformed Vermillion Place into a flourishing community where people feel at home, with 100% occupancy and a waiting list. This one-year turnaround is a testament to the power of connection and care, showing that a supportive community can truly make all the difference in senior living.
