Bob Jenness

If you've spent any time around Bob Jenness, chances are you've laughed. Bob has a gift for finding humor in everyday life and bringing a smile to the people around him. In fact, he's known around the community as the resident jokester and he wears that title well.

Bob's life has been filled with hard work, music, faith, and family. Over the years, he worked in an auto machine shop, served as a pastor, and drove a school bus for nearly two decades. But one of the greatest joys of his life was music. For more than 45 years, Bob sang Southern Gospel music, traveling and performing alongside his wife and two sons. Music wasn't just something he enjoyed, it was part of who he was.

Family has always been at the heart of Bob's story. He and his beloved wife raised two sons and were blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue to bring him pride and joy. Some of his favorite memories include family camping trips, cheering on his sons in basketball and music, and simply spending time together. When asked what kind of husband, father, and grandfather he has been, Bob's answer was humble: he tried to be loving, present, and supportive. He also shared “if spoiling the grandchildren was wrong, he was happy to be guilty of it.”

Bob's faith has guided him through every chapter of life. He has served on church boards, sung in church choirs, led devotions, supported charities, and spent years sharing the Gospel through both ministry and music. One of the moments that shaped him most was singing with the Bill Gaither organization, an experience that deepened his appreciation for how powerful music could be in sharing faith and encouraging others.

His life hasn't been without challenges. Bob remembers growing up during difficult times, when his family struggled financially after moving to Indiana. They lived simply, but his parents worked hard to make sure their children felt loved and cared for. Those lessons stayed with him. Years later, during the COVID pandemic, Bob's devotion to his wife was evident when he chose to leave Vermillion and move into a nursing home so he could remain by her side.

Today, Bob is a beloved part of the Vermillion Place family, where his humor, faith, and genuine love for people continue to brighten the lives of those around him. Known as the community jokester, he has a remarkable ability to make others laugh, feel welcome, and see the good in each day. Through his music, his ministry, his devotion to family, and his friendships, Bob has spent a lifetime lifting others up and he continues to do so every day.
